WHAT'S INSIDEÂ
Build a Garlic Plan for Your Own Garden
Inside the printable, I'll show you:
- How to choose between hardneck and softneck garlic based on your winter climate, and what to consider if you garden somewhere very warm.
- How to figure out your own fall planting window instead of copying someone else’s planting date.
- A simple calculator to figure out how much garlic your household actually needs, how many bulbs to save for next year, and approximately how much garden space you’ll need.
- A planting-day checklist with the spacing, depth, soil prep, mulch, and moisture guidelines I use in my own garden.
- A simple seasonal roadmap for fall, winter, and spring—including when I start paying attention to watering and feeding again.
- An easy harvest-readiness checklist for both hardneck and softneck garlic so you’re not relying on the calendar alone.
- A curing and storage checklist to help your harvest last for months.
- A year-to-year garlic record so you can save your best bulbs, keep track of what worked, and build a garlic crop that gets better suited to your garden over time.
Why I Made This
For years, I never thought garlic was worth growing.
I used it constantly, but organic garlic was easy to find at the grocery store, so I didn’t see much reason to give it garden space.
Then thirteen years ago, after moving from Michigan to South Carolina, I planted garlic for the first time almost on a whim.
That one crop completely changed the way I thought about it.
I discovered how different the flavor could be when I grew varieties I actually chose for the way I cooked, and once I found garlic that worked well in my garden, I could save part of the harvest and grow it again the following year.
I’ve been growing it ever since.
Along the way, I’ve also learned that the garlic you choose, your winter climate, when you plant it, and what happens during spring growth can make a huge difference in the harvest you get.
This planner takes the system I now use in my own garden and turns it into a simple workbook you can use from your first seed-garlic order all the way through next year’s planting.
Make Your Garlic Plan Before You Plant
You don’t need to guess how much seed garlic to buy, or just hope the variety you chose is right for your climate.
Use the planner to choose your garlic, find your planting window, calculate how much you actually want to grow, and map out the entire season before the first clove goes into the ground.
By the end, you’ll have your variety, planting date, crop size, bed plan, seasonal care notes, harvest cues, curing plan, and next year’s planting stock together in one printable workbook.
